Charter schools are public schools that offer parents a choice in where their child attends school and what curriculum is taught. PSAS, the third oldest Colorado charter school, provides an integrated K-8 curriculum based on the Paideia Principles and anchored in the Arts and Sciences for the success of all students.
Art, Music, Foreign Language, and Technology for all students. This generalized education for all students is part of the Paideia Philosophy that is part of our school culture. These classes are just as important as the tradition core academic classes of reading, writing, and math.
Experienced, highly-qualified licensed, and passionate staff. Our staff works very hard to meet the needs of students, coming in early or staying late. Parents report over and over that it is the staff of PSAS that makes this a great school!
Reading Instruction based on students’ instructional level. Students are assessed each quarter and are placed in a reading class based on their level rather than their grade. PSAS uses the Success for All Reading Program.
Community Service. Students at PSAS are taught the importance of being part of a community, from our Getting Along program to working with students from another grade on a project to community service. Our school-wide community service project, Empty Bowls, has been an annual event at PSAS since 1996 in which a dinner of soup donated by local restaurants and served in ceramic bowls made by students raises funds for the local homeless shelters and soup kitchens.
Something for everyone! Our students compete in the Science Fair and National History Day, with several students making it to state each year. We hold several annual cultural events, including La Posada and Dia de los Muertos. We have an annual Spring Musical each year. Each class performs its own community service project. We have our own community garden. We are always busy at PSAS.
PSAS students are prepared academically, socially, and culturally to be successful in making a good life for one’s self.
Our vision is to be an exemplary educational community which teaches skills and provides opportunities, inspiring respectful, creative, competent, productive, lifelong learners.
PSAS will provide an integrated K-8 curriculum based on Paideia principles and anchored in the Arts and Sciences for the success of all students.
The Pueblo School for Arts and Sciences believes that "the best education for the best is the best education for all."
Our Paideia philosophy in our public school promotes rigorous educational goals and utilizes effective and innovative teaching techniques. It is a school where students develop to their fullest potential. The PSAS community shares a commitment to learning as a lifelong process. That means always, with all of the excitement and empowerment that is brought about by lifelong learning.
